Patient Declaration of Autonomy and Right to a Doula Support Person
Patient Declaration of Autonomy and Right to a Doula Support Person
Hospitals requiring doulas to sign consent forms raises serious ethical concerns about patient autonomy, professional boundaries, and equity in maternal care.
While hospitals can implement reasonable policies to ensure safety and privacy (e.g., confidentiality agreements), singling out doulas with unnecessary administrative burdens undermines their role and the rights of the patients they serve. Instead, hospitals should focus on fostering collaboration with doulas to enhance the birthing experience and outcomes.
This declaration will declare the right to autonomy and the right to witness/doula/support person without coercion or consent forms, as well as the declaring the potential violation of rights.
